This is a variant of the bog fly pattern which was a popular fly in Ireland during the 1960' and 1970's.Originally a pattern for Lough Currane sea trout it became very popular as a general fly for brown trout in lakes and rivers.Peter O' Reilly in his book "Trout And Salmon flies of Ireland " suggests that it probably represents a beetle that gets blown on to the water off the heather in July, August and September.

This variant has sides of red tinsel.A particularly good end of season fly.
