UTC Spools Tying Silk

The UTC Ultra Thread is our most popular fly tying thread. Strong and durable and available in a range of vibrant colours. Designed and manufactured in the USA and the characteristics of this thread were carefully chosen during development to enhance it's fly tying performance. This thread is made from lightly waxed nylon and is extra strong for creating durable flies.

The 70 Denier thread is the thinner of the two versions available from UTC and is perfect for smaller flies and when more delicate work is required. The 140 Denier thread is thicker than the 70 and is also much stronger. This thread is best used for fly tying larger sized flies and makes breaks less likely. This thread is made of nylon for extra stretch and is perfect to grip materials when you are fly tying. The nylon gives you better feel of tension when tying with and is incredibly strong and highly durable.

The design of this thread is flat so you only need the minimum number of twists for production. This is highly advantageous when tying small flies as the flatter the thread is when it is wrapped, the more slowly it builds up. The coating on the thread is lightly waxed for a smooth and slick feel and the thread itself is not bonded. It is a multifilament thread which is an ideal choice if you need to use split thread fly tying techniques. Finally, the UTC Ultra Thread is fitted onto a spool that will smoothly turn on bobbin holders and has a colour coded end cap for product identification. This thread is available in a variety of colours and is approximately 100 yards in length.
